Favorite Designers – Elie Saab

At the beginning of my blog era (I can’t believe that I forgot to celebrate my blog first anniversary) I wanted to grant Elie Saab an entire post. He is one of my favorite designers. The gowns he designs are always precious and so feminine! Yes,  most of the designers create feminine gowns, I know, but Ellie Saab has that something that I always adore, sparkling and tight tailoring or silk and endless flow. And right about now is the perfect timing and I will start with some inside pics from his 2012-2013 fall/winter show.

I love these pictures taken inside by the models or other fortunate people that may watch so close the show preparations. I am absolutely sure that this will be the perfect job for me… just wait to finish my photographic lesson next week and I’ll be also on the backstage taking photos (a girl can dream, wink).

Known as one of the most influential and highly regarded designers of our time, Elie Saab was born in Lebanon and began designing evening gowns and wedding dresses in his early years. His eye for detail and his unparalleled craftsmanship attracts a vast audience across the Middle East and internationally.”

Elie Saab has dressed some of the most high-profile and elegant women of our time, with his creations often favoured amongst the Hollywood A-list for red-carpet events. His exquisite and utterly sophisticated pieces are undoubtedly the ultimate in glamour.”

As you can suppose already, I was thrilled to see that Elie Saab chose shadows of green for some of 2012/2013 collection gowns, the particular sparkling and underlining so well the waist gown above is my favorite.

A Splash of Green

I was never a fan of LV bags/handbags, really! Especially those tweed style and the brown with the LV beige brand on them! They were/are not my style, never. But today, clicking on every detail of LV show, I had to admit that a particular bag stole my heart forever. The color, the form, the leather, the white gloves, everything about this bag is amazing (maybe I would get rid of that flower)!

Let’s take a look, shall we?

I have three green bags at home, but each time I found something that I like, it has green on it! Well, for those of you who thought that purple is me, I am telling you: “You are so right! But a splash of green on dark purple makes wonders!” Have a wonderful weekend!

Extravagance

I have decided to celebrate this day with Karl, Silvia (they are my friends so I can call them like that, wink) and Fendi! Good idea? Well, for me those ankle boots and those crazy fur colors, the tailoring of the coats and the interesting leggings, plus the plated or leather skirts/dresses are amazing! So, extravagance and yellow colors to “sunny up” our day, girls!

Royalty – Part II

I was not allowed to take photos in Hofburg, but when I entered Sissi’s apartments and saw these two gowns, part of Sissi’s trousseau, nobody could restrain me. When I was little I very much enjoyed watching movies presenting the 19th century outfits and I was telling my mother that I’ ll become the type of lady that always wears crinoline gowns. Right! Well, too bad that Kate met William before me, wink! But wait, not even the Duchess of Cambridge wears those crinolines!

Now a little bit of history and gossip about Elisabeth of Austria or Sissi. First of all, she was born Duchess of Bavaria but she was not the usual duchess as she had the chance to grew up far from the protocols of the court in a very unrestrained environment. This was due to her father, considered a very peculiar man, who always preferred the countryside rather than the court life. Thanks God we are living now in an era when being different is the best thing ever, and the word obedient is not in our dictionary anymore! I hope you can smell my sarcasm.  But back to Sissi: a shy and introverted child, “often skipped her lessons to go riding about the countryside“.

Therefore, when she was chosen to be Austria Emperor’s spouse, she had some difficulties in adapting to the Hofburg life and to all the responsibilities an empress has. Because of the above and also of her mother-in-law patronizing attitude, “the only quality for which she felt herself appreciated, and over which she had control, was her physical appearance, so she started cultivating this as the primary source of her self-esteem. Obsessively achievement-oriented and almost compulsively perfectionist in her attitudes, she became a slave to her own beauty and image.”

So, not only I had the opportunity to admire the two amazing gowns, but I  also found some interesting things about Sissi’s obsessions. In the porcelain area, I discovered a device used for squeezing the duck meat and  for her diet, Sissi was only drinking the… how should I call it? aaaa…”duck juice”? So long with the grapefruit juice in the morning, girls, wink! This is even more disturbing since at her death she was found to have suffered from starvation! Not only she was extremely drastic with her diet, but she had also a “vintage” gym room where she would exercise every morning. And it seams that every castle she lived in was equipped with a gym room. Can you imagine her gym costume?

In her youth Elisabeth followed the fashions of the age, which for many years were cage-crinolined hoop skirts. But when fashion began to change, she was at the forefront of abandoning the hoop skirt for a tighter and leaner silhouette. She disliked both expensive accoutrements and the protocol that dictated constant changes of clothing, preferring simple, monochromatic riding habit-like attire. She never wore petticoats or any other underlinen, as they added bulk, and was often literally sewn into her clothes, to bypass waistbands, creases and wrinkles and further emphasize the wasp waist that became her hallmark.

Shoemaking Art

Due to my new shoes closet bought this weekend, I am still feeling like Cinderella! No, I did not loose any shoes and no white knight found it, but I could speak forever about shoes. So, imagine yourself being as famous as Marlene Dietrich or Elizabeth Taylor! Where will your shoes be designed? I’m telling you where: at Massaro! Apparently it all starts with a meeting and a discussion, “where the client references images and inspiration, then their foot is measured and a wooden last.Three meetings, three weeks (or, sometimes three months!) and 30 hours later, the masterpiece is complete.” Your own tailor-made shoes!

At Massaro, fourteen skilled men and women, together with their young apprentices carry on the tradition of craftsmanship, preserve the lost art of shoemaking and produce the famous shoes for Chanel’s haute couture. So, if you want to admire the timeless collection of Chanel shoes, Massaro is the right place as they keep all the shoes ever made for Chanel, including Coco’s original two-tone sandals.

This is the iconic shoe created by Massaro for Coco Chanel in 1957. Rejecting the stiletto heels that were in vogue at the time, Chanel advocated the small 6 cm heel; the beige kidskin upper lengthened the leg, whilst a black satin toe made the foot appear smaller. The back strap has some room because when women walked all day their feet would swell up. It was really designed for women. Anything that Coco Chanel developed was really catered to women’s needs.

So, “Massaro is the only name that is allowed to be stitched into the shoe next to Chanel’s“.

Massaro has done everything from the extremely avant-garde to the classic tweed pump”

“Silver lamé runway beauties” together with some of Karl’s sketches: “Every season with Chanel, Karl sketches a total look – everyone from Lesage embroidery to Massaro will really work with the sketch. It’s an ongoing conversation between the studio, the atelier and Massaro to really bring to life what Karl wanted out of the sketch. Then, it’s the same process as with a private customer and they start with samples.”

I only once had my shoes tailor made for me and that was a special dance shoe for my tango class, but we all have to agree that I can not compare that experience with a Massaro one!

Spring and Shoes

Happy, happy Friday! Today I had some outdoor activity and had the chance to say hello to the spring weather outside. What a wonderful start of the weekend! Also, my US boots arrived this week and I realized the leather is too smooth and more appropriate for this “springish” weather, so I am not disappointed at all that they arrived ten days later than estimated ’cause I could not wear them one month ago when we had -20 degrees here in Bucharest.

And speaking about boots, let’s admire some shoes today! Also, today I am going to buy another shoes closet, one is just not enough for my shoes addiction, wink!

Hmmm…too small!?

Too many styles of shoes? I know!!!

Smell

What a lovely morning: another snow during the night! But I will not accept it, no! The winter has to stop and make room for the spring. Until then, I will admire hundreds of flowers photos on your blogs! I don’t have a particular preference of flowers, all of them are amazing! But I love the smell of peony! And I am sure I will love the smell of these couture Dior dresses, too.

Bye bye Garfield mood!

I am usually being a Garfield every Monday and start my week with “I hate Mondays” mood, but today was different, maybe because I read the article about Tom Ford posted by Lisa, maybe because the sun is up today, the snow is melting and we are almost there, 1st of March is so close or maybe due to the light banana muffin I had in the morning together with my coffee or maybe…sometimes there is no particular reason, you just feel la joie de vivre.

Here is something springish for you 🙂 even though we still see some snow here and there, wink!
